Staying Sane during a Pandemic

Hello everybody, I hope you are keeping safe and healthy – and abiding with social distancing! This is an extremely difficult period for all of us, and not only that, but a time which is quite honestly bizarre and is nothing any of us have really experienced in our lifetime.

When you think of quarantine, some words that pop to mind might be boredom, confined or maybe even insanity – how is anyone supposed to stay inside for this long?! I know it’s exasperating, however right now all of us just need to accept it in order to keep ourselves and the rest of society at less risk of harm.

Don’t fret though; if you feel like you are on the verge of going insane, I have some tips for you to avoid that!

Firstly, try to get up at the same time everyday. Set an alarm for the time you would usually get up at if you were going to school or work (maybe a little later if you can get away with it) so as you aren’t wasting the whole day sleeping.

You should also try and have a schedule or plan for your day. If you have to work from home, try to work at the times you usually would, but under these circumstances don’t beat yourself up if you can’t be as productive as usual. Also, try and eat meals at the same time each day to aid this.

Get dressed everyday as this will trick your mind into thinking that it’s a normal day and help you to get stuff done. It will also just cause you to you feel in a much better mindset.

One of the most important things you should do to keep yourself sane during this time is to get some form of exercise. Take a walk or a run (if you’re still allowed to do that), and if not, get creative and do a home workout or something that doesn’t require you to leave your house. Exercise has so many positive benefits, keeping yourself healthy and releasing endorphins which boost your brain and keep mental health in check.

Finally, make sure to relax and do things that you love. This is a crazy time, so no one is going to blame you for taking a breather and have some ‘me’ time. I hope that all of you are doing ok and aren’t feeling too low or like you might just go insane. Remember to take deep breaths and remember that this pandemic will eventually end, but for now we are all in this together and the best thing we can do is stay home.
