Testing Shein: is it worth it?

Happy Friday everyone, hope you’re well!

Similar to a lot of people, quarantine has led me down the path of online shopping, and buying clothes that I probably won’t have anywhere to wear them to for a while – but, nonetheless I clicked ‘order’ anyway… oops.

I purchased these clothes from Shein, which is an affordable online clothing website that is filled with cute clothes – but there is often much debate as to whether the branding matches the style and quality of the clothing?

After watching a myriad of reviews, I concluded that the only way I would be able to know if the clothes are worth it would be to order some items for myself as there was an extremely mixed bag of opinions.

*For reference I’m 5’3. I got everything in an extra small and typically wear clothing size Uk 4-6.

Also, this post is not sponsored and all opinions are my own.

My first praise of this brand is that the clothing shipped pretty quickly for a brand that is based so far away (I live in the UK). I placed my order on the 8th of May and it arrived on the 20th, whereas it was predicted to arrive on the 31st (not that I’m in a rush to go anywhere!).

Each item came in a little plastic bag as I have shown above, and they’re actually really good quality, but I’m not 100% sure if all of the plastic was necessary as it can’t be good for the environment.

Out of the packet, everything looked exactly as it did on the website too!

The first thing I tried on was this yellow flower print slip dress. My first impression was that it needed ironed badly, but that’s understandable and can be easily rectified. I would have liked it to be a bit shorter or a bit smaller so as it would be more flattering but it’s still a pretty dress, perfect for the spring/summer as it’s a light material.

Next, I got this dress which looks exactly like one from Motel Rocks which I have wanted for ages but only a fraction of the price! The material isn’t the best quality but it’s not bad and looks really good with the belt I also ordered. I think this is one of my favourite pieces!

I also ordered this crop top and Dalmatian sort of print skirt which I think look super cute together! The top has padding on the chest area which means I don’t have to wear a bra with it (I haven’t got it sitting completely right here but it looks better in person). The frill detail on the straps and tie front really just make it look girly which I love.

I also love the pattern and colour of the skirt, but it’s a bit big on me which is kind of annoying, however my grandma will hopefully take it in a bit so I can wear it. It’s also a little see through, so make sure to wear nude underwear with it.

I also ordered these trousers because I thought they looked cool, but they are just too big on me. I don’t really have any curves so don’t have anything to fill them with and they’re also too big on the waist. I also wasn’t too sure on the material so overall these were a fail for me.

However, I do have a Depop account where I’m going to sell these along with other items in my wardrobe i no longer wear, so I would love if you followed me on there, and if you message me that you’re from my blog I’ll give you a discount on my items!

On the other hand, the black crop top is going to be a new staple in my wardrobe and will be perfect to wear under things such as with the next piece…

A similar pattern to the dress, I got this mesh dragon top. I love the quality of this and I think I would probably wear it with high waisted jeans or a skirt. Success!

Last, but definitely not least is this incredible mesh skirt with a really intriguing swirly pattern. This is my absolute favourite item of the lot. It fits perfectly on the waist, it’s the perfect length and the material is such good quality! I cannot wait to wear this when we’re allowed out properly again!

Overall I think this Shein haul was a success and the quality matched the price. As the items are cheap, you can’t expect them to be made with the standard of designer brands. I can see how this brand can be hit-or-miss, but I would recommend you give this brand a go if you’re just looking for something to wear a few times or just casually.

I would love for you to check out my Depop @cerysmadeline and shoot me a message that you came from the blog!

Which piece was your favourite? See you on Monday for the first instalment of Coffee and Crime.

  1. I’ve bought a lot from here and I’ve had a great experience. Though a lot of my friend did not. I read the reviews and pictures people have posted on a particular item I like and if it looks good then I go for it. So I’ve had a nice experience. Most looked like quality stuff. 2. I love the black crop top, it’s a closet necessity. I also love the trousers cos of the print. Sorry, they didn’t fit. I had never heard of the brand before this. I love a bargain every now and then. I wonder if they ship to Nigeria? I ‘d have a look.
